Overview
This introductory course explains the fundamentals of the technology behind broadband – don’t worry, a technical background is not required.
The seminar focuses on:
Access technologies: the different technologies used to deliver broadband to homes and businesses, including cable DSL, fiber, and wireless
Applications: how broadband technology is instrumental in the creation of services that result in both new business opportunities and threats to established business models, such as gaming, health care, publishing, content delivery (movies and entertainment), cloud computing and VoIP
Devices: devices enabled by broadband, such as Ethernet ports on TV sets, Internet radio, health monitoring, video collecting devices, and security monitoring
By the end of the seminar, you will have a better understanding of:
The vocabulary of the “convergence” industry
Triple- and Quad-Play business drivers for broadband
The needs for transport bandwidth and prioritization
Various applications that use a converged IP Layered Architecture
The four general categories of broadband transport available today
The requirements for and approaches to provide Quality of Service
This seminar is a valuable preview to the sessions and exhibits that you will find at The NAB Show held this April 10 to 15 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
